About Memory’s Wake

Lost in a Victorian fairyland, she’ll do anything to find her way home- if only she knew where home is.

A fast paced adventure filled with action and romance “Memory’s Wake” is a young adult fantasy novel of 80,000 words. Its themes focus on the search for our true selves and what is most important in our lives.

In a culture of cravats and corsets, a troubled sixteen-year-old stands out in her t-shirt and torn jeans. She takes the name “Memory” because hers are stolen, and she’ll do anything to get them back. Lost in a world not her own, where magic and monstrous fairies are real, Memory has enough to handle just trying to stay alive.

Chased by wizard hunters, hunted by a dragon, stalked by a strange, handsome savage, despised by the fae and wanted by the king himself – everyone is after Memory, and she suspects it’s not just for her eye-catching outfit. Her forgotten past holds dangerous secrets that will change everything.

Memory will fight to get back to a family and home she can’t remember but desperately desires, even at the cost of new friendships and romances. On the run with no name and no memories, she thinks she has nothing left to lose. She couldn’t be more mistaken.

Memory’s Wake is an illustrated novel, with over forty black and white interior illustrations adding to the dark fairytale atmosphere. Selina Fenech is both artist and author of the book, which is the first in a planned trilogy.

Memory’s Wake contains some adult themes and harsh language, and is more suitable for older teens.

What’s Next?

Selina is already working hard on two follow up books to complete the Memory’s Wake Trilogy.

These characters have a lot more story to tell, and the land of Avall will face times more dire than ever before.

The titles of the second and third book, and more information about their tales, will be released once Memory’s Wake has been available for some time. You know what River Song says about spoilers!

Is that the official synopsis that would go on the back cover/inside cover?

Not sure yet, it might be, or it might be similar… or I might write something new. What do you think? Do you like this one?

    Yay Doctor Who fan!

Do you have a good start on the second book in the trilogy so I know I won’t be waiting forever to find out what happens next after finally getting to read Memory’s Wake? It’s like torture waiting for future books. XD

I have the plots of the following books almost completely planned out, and also have the first 5 chapters of book two already drafted as well. I won’t keep people waiting too long :)

I’m not sure. Part of me likes this one and part of me wants to see what else you come up with. I think at first I found it underwhelming as a synopsis but now I like it. I think the fact that I read the first chapter BEFORE reading the synopsis is coloring my ability to judge it on its own merits. I’m going to step back and let the first chapter get a bit fuzzier in my brain, then look at the synopsis again and get a fresh look at it. Any synopsis is going to look underwhelming when compared to a tantalizing first chapter. :)

I’ve updated the blurb above to a new version. I’m happier with this one, hopefully it’s better.

I have to agree with Pixie, my thoughts exactly.

Ohhh yeah!!!!!! That’s a great idea! There aren’t enough good fantasy stories around nowadays in film/tv. There’s reality shows, dramas, action, stupid comedy or romcoms, some sci fi but not near enough fantasy in my opinion! I’d love if your novel ever become a movie! =D

I also didn’t know you plan to write a trilogy! Oh yay! =D

I especially love the theme…… ‘searching for our true selves and finding what’s truly important in life………….something we should all be doing. I can’t wait to see the finished book!

the book seems great. why did you want to make it a trilogy? will you be able to end the books with three?

Without giving too much away, the first book’s story concludes when the original issues of the story tie up (the reasons the characters were running for their lives, etc). But when characters are busy running for their lives, there’s not much time for romance, so this was something I wanted to keep for sequel books. There is some romance in the first book, but it’s not the focus anyway. While the characters initial danger and issues resolve in the first book, the place they end up in has a whole lot of new issues to face which take the story on for another two books. The first book deals with a very personal life or death struggle, and by the end of the three books it is dealing with the fate of the world and all those in it. That’s the story I wanted to tell, but it really takes three books to tell it. After the trilogy I have no plans to write more about these characters and world. I have other story ideas I want to write instead :)

    Hi Selina,
congradulations, on your book. I was thrilled to find Memory Wakes for Kindle on amazon.com, but it just won’t be the same without your art. I know the book hasn’t been out long, but do you have any idea when the book will by coming? Or is it already out and I just can’t find it?
    thanks for your time:)

The official launch (including paperback and hardcover versions) is coming up soon, hopefully the start of July. I’ll be making an announcement soon (or you can sign up to the newsletter here to be notified of the release date). Yep, ebooks are available in a couple of places already. Sort of a “pre-launch” of them, just because it takes time to set everything up and get it online. I wanted to make sure everything would be available for the actual launch, even if it means they are available for a while before hand as well ;)

Hi Nick, the themes and style of the story are quite dark at times, so it might not be your thing if you prefer more feel-good fairy stories. If you give it a try though I hope you do enjoy it :)

HOWDY,SELINA. I CHANGED MY MIND,I DO THINK THAT I NEED SOMETIMES THE GOTHIC ATMOSPHERE LIKE A FEMALE SINGER-TARJA TURUNEN FROM FINLAND.
